Collecting Fossil Leaves in the Eocene Green River Formation near Vernal Utah

This is an area that we have featured a number of time now. As long as we keep finding pretty fossils I will keep posting trips. Check out our other trips to this area for more details on previous trips. As you can see it was a bit cold out, but that makes for perfect collecting weather. It keeps you working so that you can stay warm.

Showing off a few of the many fossil leaves that were found. Every rock has a leaf or two on it. We generally collect everything then sort through the pile when we are done.
Some very nice Macginetea.
Unfortunately this beauty broke.
This Populus, though not perfect, was over 8" long. If it would have been complete it would have stretched out well over a foot.

This is a beautiful exampe of a pair of blossoms. Notice that one is still attached to the stick. Click on the picture for a larger look.
