Collecting Triassic Ammonites in Northeastern Nevada
Not much to this one, unfortunatley. Only
a few pictures of the last spot that we stopped on this trip. We
actually spent most of the day out looking for various other ellusive
fossils, brittlestars in particular, but since we got skunked we
decided to hit this more than popular site. My Grandpa says that
when he first collected here the ammonites were so plentiful that
it only took a few minutes to collect all that you needed. That
was 30 or 40 years ago. It has been picked over plenty since then
and this time, the pickings were not as good. There are still ammonites
to be found, as you can see, but they required a little more work
than they used to. Here is another link
to information about this location. It is much more informative,
and includes a lot of information about the area. Including details
about the geology.
